I was just curious what the different Mentors here do with their Apprentices as far as pay scale goes?

Sorry, I worded my question incorrectly. What I meant was when they had worked their way up to the point where the shop was charging for their tattoo work how do different shops go about working them into a paid tattooist. Example, do they start off with 30% and then work their way up as their experience grows. Just trying to see what the general consencus was.

Depends if you want an employee, which you have to pay taxes and SS for, or a private contractor. If they are an employee, you supply everything except possibly machines, power supply and tubes, and they make less of a cut.

If they are a private contractor, you CANNOT legally supply ANYTHING other than space, so the studio gets a smaller cut, but has less expenses.

All my people are private contractors, and they are trained. They get a 60% cut.
